If you have an interest in forecasting new and different things, http://www.forecastingprinciples.com is one site where one can get some inspiration. E.g. a recent visit to this site previewed stories on how CIA was using different forecasting techniques to predict the health of different foreign leaders.

Scams - Does anyone care ?
The news doing the rounds for quite some time now is all about scams - big and small. In fact there has been so much news coverage that it does not appear as a news anymore. Just like broken roads, power and water woes, poverty doesn't make news now as people have got insensitive to it, would people adjust to it as well ? The Indians are quite good at adapting to the problems, finding out some jugaad somehow, and hence easily gel along with rest of the world. But is it good for this country ? If everyone starts believing that nothing could be done, then nothing could be done. We require heroes whom we can adore but do we understand that heroes aren't born, society creates them. People who do what is humane, embody the ethics and qualities and emerge victorious from the challenges that seem surmountable are termed as heroes. Until we understand it that we could become heroes ourselves by doing what is expected from a human being, we could only end up blaming others for the mess we are in. If you just wait for someone like Anna Hazare or Ramdev to come and free the country of corruption, it isn't gonna happen. We should for a change start thinking individually (in some term selfishly) rather than go on with mob mentality. Imagine you are in this mess, you have to come out of it and nobody else can help you, how are you going to change this. Remember Anna Hazare or Ramdev are just some individuals' attempts at cleaning the mess. They may be successful or they might not be but to expect someone else to wipe your ass would be daftness.
So wake up guys, think creatively, how to tackle this issue and not sit idle and wait for problem to resolve itself. I am sure the collective brains of a billion + people can easily outsmart those of Rajas, Kalmadis, Marans and Reddys.
